Swimwear Over The Ages

Introduction

Swimwear is the term used for garments designated for swimming and beach wear. It has gradually developed over the years from the bulky garments used to completely cover the body into the selection of brief pieces of fabric arranged to expose as much as possible of the body.

Finding the right sort of swimwear is not always that easy especially if you do not have a large budget. There is an enormous variety of body sizes and shapes for both men and women and correspondingly there are an enormous variety of outfits ranging from the very cheap to the very expensive.

Fashion Dictates

If it was just a case of having a bathing costume to wear when going swimming and replacing it when it had worn out, life would be relatively easy. But there is the matter of fashion. Every year the makers come up with a different style so that the previous year’s model suddenly looks old fashioned and we feel compelled to buy a new one. As purchasers we are confronted with one piece swimsuits, two piece swimwear, some with long tops, some with skimpy tops, high leg cut, high waist cut, different cup sizes, in a variety of fabrics, colours, patterns, two tone and so on. The choice is endless.

History of Swimwear

The earliest recorded bathing costume was in 350 BC in Greece which was a toga-like garment for bathing. During the 18th century people visited spa resorts for their health where they spent time in the spa waters. Naturally they needed something proper to wear, other than their day clothes, when they were engaged in public bathing. Later the recreation of beach bathing demanded a specially made outfit to maintain decorum and decency, so the bathing suit was developed.

Initially the swimwear was rather like ordinary daywear, and the dresses worn by the women sometimes had lead weights sewn into the hems to prevent the skirts from floating up. As the expansion of the railways enabled the masses to spend time at the seaside a more practical type of outfit was required. By the early 1900’s the swimsuit consisted of bloomers with black stocking and shoes, and the top was like a jacket belted at the waist. Swimming was considered suitable for men, while women were assisted into the water for a short dip.

Over the century attitudes changed and swimming became an Olympic sport for both men and women. Gradually the swimming costume changed to adopt short capped sleeves and more ankle was exposed beneath the bloomers. As women became more active in the water the swimming costume needed to be less cumbersome so the neckline was lowered and the tops became sleeveless. Eventually the Princess cut was introduced which consisted of the trousers attached to a blouse in one piece.

In 1909 Annette Kellerman, the Australian swimmer, film star and author, went down in history as being the first woman to ever wear a one piece swimsuit, the only person to get arrested for indecency wearing ladies swimwear! However, by 1910 “Annette Kellermans” became the new accepted ladies swimwear.

From then on the swimsuits became lighter and briefer. By the 1920’s the women wore figure hugging tank suits made from wool Jersey and by 1928 they had evolved into the swimsuit we would recognise today. In the 1930’s cotton was introduced for bathing suits sometimes with little overskirts to hide bulky thighs, but film stars wore fashionable figure hugging costumes with higher cut legs sealing the fate of the fashionable swimwear.

The corset manufacturers in the 1940’s saw that women with less than perfect figures needed swimsuits to hide or control the bulges, so seeing a gap in the market they produced costumes which had control panels for the tummy and bra cups and bones to give support to the bust. Using the methods applied in corset making they introduced the stretch factor to bathing costumes so that they were more flattering than ever before.

With the development of synthetic fabrics, Nylon and Lycra became the fabric of choice for swimwear because of their stretch properties. This meant that the costume could be pulled on without openings or fastenings and gave a firmer cleaner line to the figure. Women continued to wear all in one swimsuits until the 1950’s when the bikini became popular.

Leisure Swimming or Sunbathing

Although certain costumes are called swimwear, in fact some never get near the water. They are solely for sunbathing which usually means they are as small as possible, just barely covering the essential bits so that the skin gets maximum exposure to the sun and such a design would be classed as a bikini.

Two Piece or Bikinis

Over two thousand years ago early mosaics and pottery from Greece portray what in fact looks like an early version of a bikini. These garments were used by women performers and acrobats and were in two pieces to cover the breasts and the lower part of the body, much like the current style of Bandeau tops. Modern day runners and athletes wear something very similar when competing. Paula Radcliffe when running the Marathon last year, wore a garment almost identical to those worn thousands of years ago!!

The bikini resembles women’s underwear and has been described as a scanty two piece bathing suit. The lower part may be two small triangles attached together with a string tie at either side, or even a thong. The upper part may also be two small triangles attached together with a string tie but arranged in a slightly different order. Louis Reard patented the new version of the bikini in 1946; his design was similar to the skimpy string 1970’s bikini and it shocked the world when it appeared on French beaches in 1947.

The very first bikini shown in the cinema was in the Bond film Dr No when Ursula Andress rises out of the sea in a white bikini. This created the iconic Bond girl and made her world famous. When being interviewed on television recently she revealed that the bikini had been constructed out of a bra covered with the fabric to give her the required lift of the bosom. This actual bikini sold at auction for £35,000 in 2001.

Fashions dictated that swimwear bikinis should be as small as possible by the 1990’s as the desire for a near all over tan peaked.

Ultimately the top part of the bikini was abandoned altogether when topless sunbathing became the norm in some countries and the bottom was just a G-string or thong also called a Tanga. Oliver Saillard the fashion journalist states that the bikini is the most popular female beachwear in the world, and that the emancipation of swimwear is linked to the emancipation of women.

In the 1950’s there was a popular song entitled ‘In My little Itsy Bitsy Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ that indicated the acceptance of the new style of swimwear. I remember my cousin persuading me to try on a bikini and I felt very exposed but she said how fantastic I looked in it because I was so slim.

Although the bikini is now an acceptable garment whatever the size, the one piece swimsuit is still the best for serious swimmers. Some businesses are well known for their skill at making swimwear and make all the garments for the Olympic team and other swimming competitions. Now swimwear is available in a wide range of bust sizes and the more expensive makes have control panels for the stomach combined with clever styling to create a good silhouette. Combined with a matching sarong, older ladies may feel more comfortable when walking around the beach area.

Helen Mirren was photographed on holiday in her substantial bikini last summer with the caption commenting on how good she looked for her age and that particular bikini was snapped up from the stores within days. Perhaps the customers believed that they could look as good as Helen Mirren in a bikini if they had the same one.

Leg Line

Some two piece bathing suits are cut so that the waist is high and the corresponding leg line is also cut high. I believe the aim is to make the wearer look as though her legs are much longer than they are. However if you have less than the perfect shape for this style it can emphasise large hips so it’s not for all women.

Another fashion mode is the tankini where the bottoms look like little shorts and shows the lower curve of the bottom, which is fine if you are young with a nice pert bottom.

The top garments on swimwear tankinis are long tops designed to cover most of the upper torso and usually feature slim bikini style straps.

The classic bikini style is still as popular as ever though, with the cut of the leg line following the natural crease between the leg and the hip.

The most recent development in fabric is the ‘tan through’ swimwear. This allows the body to tan without exposing the body to the world. Some commentators on this style point to the effects of too much sun on the body and the incidences of skin cancer of which the evidence indicates an alarming increase. However, the counter argument to that is if you are wearing a bikini anyway then the extra exposure to the sun through the top and bottom garments is hardly going to make much difference.

Conclusion

Swimwear is a term used these days to cover all types of beach wear and swimming gear. It is a bit of a misnomer in that many outfits never see the water and are not used for swimming. However there is a huge range of garments available for the buyer of different styles, sizes and fabrics. The one commonality of course is that everyone wants to look good once they don these garments. The main key to that is to make sure your new swimwear is the right fit and cut, for your body size and shape.

The importance of being properly measured for your swimwear is often overlooked but it is as important as being properly measured for your bra or other underwear, particularly if you do indeed intend to actually swim in your new swimwear! By wearing the right size and style swimwear for your body, will ensure you are really comfortable in it on the beach, in the pool or wherever else you choose to wear it.

Can you find common ground in these items?

With all the bad news about the economy it’s hard not to think about what you may have to give up if things get bad. Hopefully anyone reading this is in a position of comfort enough that they don’t have to worry about doing without anything essential. We should be thankful to have our homes, our families and whatever we can bring home to take care of them. But some people are taking a hard look at how they spend money and trying to decide what they can do without.

Personally, it would be very hard to give up good TV. After spending on small fortune on HD television, all the bells and whistles and things like the plasma tv stand, it would be hard to give up tv and have those thousands of dollars sitting there. I guess we could sell it all.

Or what about your Far infrared sauna? I mean this is definitely a luxury item for most. I do have family who need it for medical reasons, it really does seem to make them feel better, but for others this is something they could part with if absolutely necessary. If it’s paid for the only reason to get rid of it might be to make a mortgage payment, but it’s something.

Babbling now, but what about exercise equipment? I never use mine anyway, but if you’ve got a great elliptical workout machine then you could get rid of that and make decent coin. They offer a great workout, but would also help make a good house payment.

Just something to think about, hopefully none of us have to make these tough decisions.

Why You Need One Way Links and Should You Buy Them

I often see the question asked in forums, “Is it ok to buy one way links?” With search engine ranking being so competitive the temptation to buy one way links is great. But, to improve your page rank you need many incoming links and therefore it is usually uneconomical.

One way links are the best way to increase a sites link popularity. One way links are links to your site from sites which do not receive a link back from your site.

What about reciprocal links? Matt Cutts of Google made it plain in his blog that Google frowns upon sites which “overdo” reciprocal links and as I’ve already said you need many incomming links to improve your page rank.

Reciprocal linking alone would not get you ranked well on the search engines because sometime back everyone figured out the value of reciprocal linking and so many professional SEO companies abused the practice by setting up large reciprocal linking programmes thereby diluting their importance.

Search engines such as Google place a lot of importance on one way incomming links when ranking your site. Along with inbound links, relevant anchor text, the actual text in the clickable part of the link, is also very important in the linking process.

Articles are one way, in your SEO link building strategies, of building one way links without buying them. When you write the article you include an About the Author section in which you can post a link back to your blog. You then submit your article to a few different article websites such as Ezine Articles and GoArticles.

These article sites in turn allow other website owners to download your article and post it as content onto their website. One of the rules is that anyone that posts your article must include the About the Author (resource box) section which has your link in it. I have personally found many blogs using my articles without the resource box and therefore no link to my site.

Article submission is still very usefull for one way links, but it’s difficult, it’s slow, and let’s face it, it’s boring!

Find out how you can literally get an Endless Supply of Quality One-Way Links that Will Rank Your Sites in Google.

Many private casualty insurance offerers can be compared online

When the client wants a fitting personal liability insurance then you should use a price comparison machine to find an individual solution. There you can detect the appropriate private indemnity assurance quotation out of the multitude of insurers. The assurance market is ambigious to most clients. There are several insurance offerers. As a private person the customer hardly can get the overview. Nevertheless one wants to find the suitable solution. The following site gives a free comparison of German private casualty assurance suppliers: Privathaftpflichtversicherung Vergleich. There the customer can retrieve an individual personal casualty insurance comparison in no time.

Everyone should think about some important aspects when searching the best personal indemnity insurance in Germany: E.g. in leisure activities or sports everyone could accidentally cause an injury that might have a large financial size. When the customer e.g. on the ski slopes get involved into an accident, which leads to permanent health harm, the other party may assert enormous demands. Your private indemnity assurance manages the handling of the case and the claims of third parties. If your insurer comes to the conclusion that you are not liable for something, they help you even if anyone brings an action against you therefore. Without having a personal liability insurance, you must deal by yourself with the claims of the victim or you need to mandate an advocate to do so for you.

Although the private indemnity insurance was a voluntary assurance in Germany, everybody should cover their own danger to be charged by a third party in the event of harm. Without personal liability assurance you are liable for legitimate claims of third parties with your total private equity. Your personal casualty insurance will help you even if unjustified claims are asserted against you. The clerk of the insurer works on your individual case and decides upon the relevant factual and legal situation whether claims are justified or not.

If charges are asserted against you, which you legally are not liable for, then your assurance will help you in the defense of such charges and will give you legal safeguard. It is not necessary to visit all the German private liability insurance vendors in person when looking for the best solution. You can retrieve an online comparison and even contract your personal indemnity assurance here: Privathaftpflicht im Vergleich.

Your personal liability assurance checks by trained staff, whether the claims against you are entitled, and then regulates them. With a private liability insurance you and your family have shelter against the typical liability exposure of everyday life in the private sector. If you do not have a private casualty insurance, it is the victim that confronts you personally with their demands. You then have to decide whether to pay or to dispute by yourself or to mandate a legal practitioner. A personal casualty assurance would have done all that for you. Then you do not stand alone in the event of harm but have professional support by your side.

How Many Things Can Go Wrong

What a time I’ve had of late it all began with a problem with my sink leaking well anyway I tried to find a localised plumber in the local telephone directory - who could show up within a week no luck there In Any Case I decided to do a search on google for Plumbers Newcastle. Hit gold with that one there they where online .Anyway I filled in the contact form and inside of about 20 minutes I had a telephone call to set up an appointment .That’s what I call service. To cut a long story short they came out the same day and where quite a bit cheaper than the company who could not get to me for virtually a week.

Shortly after the 1st problem was concluded don’t I get a telephone call from a acquaintance saying somebody has crashed into his motorcar from behind and are refusing any responsibleness. Not really certain how that goes as they clearly drove into his car. Well hot on my success with google and the phantom plumbers don’t I get on-line and go looking for a Newcastle Solicitor for him. Just on the off chance that his policy has some tiny little clause about legal costs who knows?

On a happier note someone I know has made up one’s mind to spend some of their redundancy on buying a delivery business. Not really certain if they have done as much research as they should before going all out for it .I have assured them that they need a Newcastle Accountant to look at the books of account as these individuals know precisely what they are looking at. For the cost it could well save him thousands if the business is going to close or hopefully the accountant will turn around and say that it looks like a paying business go for it.

So all in all the last few weeks have been quite eventful around here. Looking forwards to a few tranquil weeks now with no more leaks or phone calls about car accidents.

Kitty Q&A on Training a Cat and More

Q: Can you train a cat?

A: Yes, training a cat is not as challenging as most owners believe it is. Kitties may not be as attentive to training as Fido or FiFi are but they are trainable. Tasty treats offered as positive reinforcement is most likely the primary method to successful cat training.

Q: Why and how do happy cats make a purring sound?

A: Adult cats purr because they are happy and contented and to play on the emotions of humans — Who can ignore a purring cat? Kittens purr in answer to their mother cat’s purr to help bond them. It is generally assumed that the purring is a vibration of the larynx as air is pushed though it. It is also believed that purring is a voluntary action.

Q: Why are the reasons quite a few people are allergic to cats?

A: Cat allergies are caused by the proteins in cat dander coming from the cat’s saliva. The dander dries and becomes airborne. People with cat allergies develop an allergic reaction because their immune system is trying to attack the alien protein and creates histamines.

Q: How do you curtail undesirable cat behavior such as clawing?

A: The best way to break naughty cat behavior is the same way the mother cat controls an errant kitten. This is by scuffing the cat. You firmly but gently grasp the cat by the scruff of the neck and hold it down until it calms down. You need to do this at the time of the unwanted behavior.

Q: How do you litter train a cat?

A: You really shouldn’t need to do any training for a cat to make use of a litter pan, but if your previously litter trained cat has started to avoid the litter box you need to determine the cause. The cat may have a urinary tract infection in which case you need to go to the veterinarian. If it is just too dirty you need to keep it cleaner. If you have switched to litter you may have to change back or sprinkle a little catnip in the litter to attract the cat to the new litter.

Q: How do you keep cats off counters?

A: This is one of the most asked about cat behavior issues and can be a challenging one. Cats like elevated perches and they can find food or food odors on counters and tables. It is best to keep the surfaces clean and to use something like foil or double sided tape to keep cats off the tables.

The Importance Of Exercises For Face Toning & Tightening

Does your facial skin droop and is no longer firm? Then you must think of exercising your facial muscles. As in the case of exercises for the body ensures a shapely and firm body, facial exercises can lift up the sagging skin and give a younger look to the face. You will rue the fact that you did not commence earlier once you discover how essential facial exercises are.

Many of us do not understand that as we age, our facial muscles lose their vitality. The muscles lose their strength and the skin just above them tends to droop due to lack of support from beneath. Sagging facial skin makes you look years older, more than what wrinkles do in a number of cases.

With sagging skin, it becomes difficult to define your facial features. Your jaw line is no firm and strong and extra jowls add to its misery and you become conscious of your deep laugh lines. These factors add years to your actual age ia not a good sign at all.

You must be used to making certain facial expressions during your daily activities which can be inferred as exercise to the face. The issue in question is if you are simply doing them out of habit like many others, those expression are actually having a negative impact on your facial muscles.

To illustrate the point, if you are used to crinkling your eyes a lot and raising your eyebrows very often while working on something seriously, the concerned muscles are overworked and you are gifted with an everlasting scowl on your face! During this period, the other healthy muscles that aid your youthful appearance, are not worked and hence become weakened.

The secret behind the success of exercising for face toning and tightening, is to do such workouts that activate the appropriate muscles in your face to lift and firm them up. When these muscles gain in strength, your face will become tauter and younger looking. Simultaneously, when you concentrate on the right muscles, the overworked muscles can be evened out and your face will appear more symmetrical and defined.

A majority of people who have attempted facial exercises and adhered to it, have shown satisfactory outcome. Doing facial exercises at your convenience methodically is preferable to other choices like Botox or surgery for a variety of reasons. Firstly, this is more lucrative than any of them. Secondly, this is absolutely safe and devoid of any dangers than subjecting your face to foreign matters and leaving your face at the disposal of surgical instruments.

The main highlight of following a regimen of facial exercises is ht it is not strenuous in any manner and you have the benefit of seeing the effects soon enough. If you can contribute a few minutes from your daily activities, for using the facial exerciser, you will be the beneficiary of good results soon. If you adhere to this workout strictly, you will soon be able to regain your original youthful face in no time.

Jen Hopkins has worked in the anti wrinkle skin care industry for years. She maintains websites about facial exercises, and exercises for face. If you want to contact her, you can use the contact form at one of her sites.

Wedding Decorations: Preparing for an Outdoor Wedding

One of the most important elements of every wedding has to be the bride’s dress. Among other things, what the bride will wear on her special day is probably what’s given the most attention. However, it is necessary to keep in mind that it is equally important to dress up the wedding itself. A lot of time and effort must be put in to ensure that couples are able to come up with the most memorable wedding decorations.

Outdoor weddings are a popular alternative for couples that long for a more unconventional ceremony. However, planning wedding decorations for such ceremonies may be quite difficult for some. Below is a list of things to remember when preparing for an outdoor wedding. Purchasing a black custom aisle runner has become more popular in outdoor weddings.

Location

The first thing to establish is the actual location of the wedding. An outdoor wedding can be held in several venues and it is up to the couple to decide which will suit them best.

Beaches are a popular choice for those who love the sand and the sea. On the other hand, parks and botanical gardens are perfect for those who are looking to exploit the captivating beauty of nature. Another common venue is the backyard gazebo which is not only a cheaper alternative, but also gives off a more intimate vibe.

The Ensemble

One of the most important wedding decorations is the wedding arch. This accessory breeds some sort of formality to the casual nature of outdoor weddings. It is both fun and easy to decorate wedding arches and one of the best ways to do this is by adorning them with ribbons and flowers. If the ceremony is to be held at night, lighting will play a very important role. Even simple string lights, lanterns, or candles should help make the mood more romantic. Brides should consider the unity candle set to compliment the esemble.

The biggest benefit of having outdoor weddings is that the ceremony itself will be surrounded by natural beauty. This lessens the need to decorate and couples may just come up with various strategies to exploit the beauty of nature while keeping the wedding decorations discreet.

Accessorize

Even if the wedding is to be held at a botanical garden, it is still important to have some sort of flower arrangement to brighten up the mood. However, the flowers chosen match the overall theme of the outdoor location. Other useful ideas include tying bows on chairs, a combination of rose petals and floating candles, and an addition of a colored aisle runner.
