A Complete Guide to Balloons
Introduction
When you think of the word ‘Balloons’ what ideas appear in your mind? Is it simple balloons you blow up for children’s parties, or balloons that fly off on their own, or the special balloons for key events like the ones produced for the wedding of Charles and Diana? There are now so many different types of balloons on the market that you can get almost anything for everything any event you like.
So what exactly is a balloon? One definition defines a balloon as a flexible bag which you fill with air or some other type of gas, such as helium or hydrogen. The early balloons would have been made with non flexible material but modern balloons are made with latex so they have great elasticity and can be pumped up to much larger sizes.
History of Balloons
The earliest known balloons were made in Central and Southern America by the Aztec Indians. They were made out of the bowels of cats which were carefully cleaned then turned inside out. They were sewn with special vegetable thread that had the property of sticking to itself when dried in the sun and creating an almost airtight seal. The balloons were then made into air filled model animals and burned at the top of the Aztec pyramid as an offering to the sun god. (The first example of balloon modelling). A Portuguese priest, Bartolomeu de Gusmao, held the first public exhibition of a balloon in the Portuguese Court in Lisbon in 1709 which was probably made from an animal bladder that stretched when filled with air. The rubber balloon was invented in 1824 by a Michael Faraday and was filled with hydrogen to be used in his experiments with hydrogen. But the familiar latex balloon did not appear until 1847.
The early rubber balloons were sold in America in Parks and Circuses for a penny each. Although the latex balloon was manufactured in London in the mid 1800’s the mass production of them did not happen until much later in 1931.
As technology has become more advanced so has the world of balloons. Now balloons can be made from rubber, latex, polychloroprene or nylon. They can be filled with air, helium, hydrogen or water. Filling the balloon with air can be done with the mouth, a manual pump(such as a hand pump), or electric inflator or with compressed gas. The balloons are used for many differing purposes, and decorated in numerous ways to fit the event.
Some balloons are purely for decoration, others are ideal for specific uses because of their low density and relatively low cost. The balloon’s properties have led to them being used in a wide range of other applications in the areas of meteorology, military defense, medical treatment, and transportation.
Types of Balloons
Party Balloons
The most common and familiar types of balloons are the party balloons. These are often bought from wholesale balloon suppliers when larger quantities are needed to create a festive scene for children’s parties and other kinds of celebratory events where they can make all the difference.
These days I often see a cluster of balloons at the entrance to a house or hall to indicate where the party is being held. The balloons come in many different sizes and colours and can have printing on the face which expands as the balloon is inflated. Party Balloons are mostly made of natural latex tapped from rubber trees. The rubber’s elasticity makes the volume variable. Balloons filled with air usually hold their size and shape much longer.
Helium Balloons
Balloons which float upwards are filled with the gas helium which is lighter than air. So for an event where balloons are let off into the atmosphere, they will need to be helium balloons. Helium filled rubber balloons usually only retain their buoyancy for a few days. The enclosed helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex through which they escape. To increase the float time of a helium balloon for a week or more, the inside of the balloons can be coated with a special polymer solution to reduce the leakage of the helium.
Water Balloons
The water balloons are often smaller than regular balloons and made from thin rubber so that they can be easily broken. They are filled with water and are intended for children to throw at each other as a game or practical joke with the aim of getting each other drenched. They may also be used in competitions or games.
Foil Balloons
In the late 1970s along came the foil balloon. These are made of thin non-stretch metalized plastic film or mylar. They are much more expensive and made an appearance at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana causing quite a stir. These balloons have attractive shiny reflective surfaces and can be printed with color pictures, logos and patterns to customize them. The most important property of metalized nylon for balloons is its ability to keep the helium gas from escaping for several weeks because it is less permeable. Foil balloons then have the advantage of being light weight, longer-lasting, with increased buoyancy. They are perfect for parties, in-store decorations, special celebrations and for gifts.
Animal-Shaped Balloons
Metalized nylon balloons can be cut into the three dimensional shapes of animals and then printed to represent the chosen animal. Once inflated the balloons make very bright, decorative items for gifts or may be used as a theme for a special event. Screen printing is used to create the designs for these spectacular pieces.
Balloon Modelling and Balloons in Art
Balloon modelling is a popular entertainment for children and adults alike. A Balloon artist twists and ties inflated tubular balloons into shapes resembling animals or even people. Sometimes they are called balloon sculptures, not to be confused with those cited below. When I have watched these artists at work I have often wondered why the balloons don’t burst when they are working.
This is because the Latex balloons used are made of extra flexible rubber so they’re twistable and can be tied without popping when being used for balloon sculptures. These sculpting balloons are very difficult to inflate to begin with so quite often the sculptor uses a pump.
Balloon Sculptures
Professional party decorators may use hundreds of helium balloons to create balloon sculptures. These sculptures are often constrained because of the round shape of the balloons to simple arches or walls but on occasion more ambitious “sculptures” have been attempted. Sometimes balloons are used as table decorations for special events which will have 3 or 5 balloons to each bouquet. The decoration will usually include curled ribbon with an added weight to stop the balloons from floating away.
Professional balloon party decorators use electronic equipment to enable the exact amount of helium to fill the balloon. For non-floating balloons air inflators are used. Professional quality balloons differ from most retail packet balloons as they are bigger in size and made from 100% biodegradable latex.
Balloon Drops
I am sure you will have been to a party or dance where at the end of the evening hundreds of balloons fall from the ceiling to mingle amongst the participants. This is known as a balloon drop and is often performed at New Year’s Eve celebrations or at political rallies and conventions. It is a relatively low cost way of creating a festive atmosphere at the party climax, so everyone goes away feeling they have had a really good time.
If you want to create a balloon drop for your own event you will need to set up a large plastic bag or net overhead, which is suspended at a certain height. This is then filled with air-inflated balloons so that they will fall onto the target area below when the balloons are released. You will also need to develop a mechanism for releasing the balloons. Balloon drops may also be performed at many celebrations, including graduations and weddings.
Balloon Rockets
As a child I am sure you played the game of blowing up a balloon then letting it go while watching it speed around the room making a rude noise with everyone falling about laughing. These are called balloon rockets and I remember being enthralled and wondering how they worked. When the mouth of the balloon is released, the greater pressure of air inside forces its way out and the elasticity of the balloon contracts causing the balloon to be propelled forward. This is fundamentally how a rocket works. The balloon can also be filled with gases other than air, with similar results. Besides being simple toys, balloon rockets are a widely used teaching device to demonstrate physical principles and the functioning of a rocket. The balloon rocket is frequently used to demonstrate Newton’s third law in physics.
Balloon Publicity
For your company logo or message to make a substantial impact it needs to be clearly printed on the balloons and the balloons need to be released in huge quantities. For balloons to float Helium balloon gas is drawn from a canister of helium gas which specialist companies deliver to the required place on time.
Balloon Releases
In Australia they had a fund raising event on 18th April for Make-A-Wish Day. The 5,000 released balloons make a spectacular sight as they rise across the bay marking the number of wishes granted since 1985.
If you are planning a balloon release or race of more than 5,000 balloons, it is a requirement that you apply in writing for permission to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at least 28 days in advance. The CAA also like to be informed of balloon releases up to 5,000. A form can be obtained by calling either the NABAS office on 01989 762 204 or the Airspace Utilisation Section of the CAA on 020 7453 6599
Because of concerns about the effect on the environment of large numbers of balloons being released, the NABAS - The Balloon Association have produced a code of conduct which can be found on their website at www.nabas.co.uk
Safety and Environmental Concerns
Balloons are made of natural rubber latex (NRL) which is a natural product coming from rubber trees that are grown in certain areas of the tropics. These are not trees that are cut down to produce the NRL. The NRL is obtained by tapping from mature trees and is a sustainable crop providing employment for many agricultural workers in some of the poorest areas of the world.
As a consequence of NRL cultivation and the consumption of latex products, the planting and maintenance of rubber tree plantations helps towards the prevention of tropical rainforest deforestation. This contributes significantly to the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, produced by industrialised nations and a major source of global warming.
Research shows that latex balloons which are completely natural coming from the Hevea tree degrade faster than oak leaves. Oxidation occurs first in the breakdown of latex and it begins within an hour of a balloon being inflated. As the decaying process is by natural exposure nutrients are released into the ground. Most balloons used in releases today are made of bio-degradable latex.
An estimated 90/95% of balloons released rise to an altitude of 5 miles, at which height the cold will cause the balloon to become brittle and shatter into miniscule pieces. The small fragments then floating back to earth to degrade in the ground. Balloon fragments are unlikely to cause harm if accidentally ingested. This is because latex and the dyes used in latex colouring are non-toxic.
Printed latex balloons are a fantastic, low-cost and environmentally friendly way of advertising at promotions and events. All latex balloons supplied by B-Loony, the UK’s largest printed balloon manufacturer, are completely biodegradable. The code of conduct produced by NABAS for balloon releases gives advice to ensure the protection of our environment.
Manufacture of Balloons
Balloons are manufactured by their millions every day in many countries. The rubber is collected as liquid from a rubber tree and then sent to the factories where the liquid goes through a series of treatment processes. These processes include shaping and colouring operations and testing for quality. The end products are thousands balloons which provide a splash of colour and party atmosphere at celebrations and conferences or any event where a large number of people gather.
Conclusion
Toy balloons have been a source of pleasure and excitement throughout the world for many years. They have provided hours of entertainment and interest for children as well as being an educational resource. Non toy Balloons are being used for science, medicine and travel and are invaluable in helping us to learn about our world. Balloons I am sure will remain very alive and active on the world’s scene for many years to come.

Finding The Discounted Hotel Rates
Holiday is coming and you are arranging a holiday abroad for your family members, and want everyone to have a family holiday. With internet, you can surf the internet for hotel deals easily. For instance, type in “Penang Hotels” in the search box and you will get ton of the hotel information. But from the images that you see and the content you read, all hotels display a nearly perfect image of themselves. How do you distinguish which ones are better to choose in your holiday?
Hotel offers are a huge factor when it comes to deciding a hotel to stay. However, paying more does not necessarily mean that you will receive an similar level of service and standards. One of the ways to maximize on prices would be to see if they are part of an alliance with other flights or car rental companies, in which they can further offer more discounts to the customers of their allies. Most of the time, credit card companies give their cardholders better rates to selected hotels. These offers can be pretty attractive. Besides, it is recommended to use your credit card points to redeem hotel discounts. This could help to save some hotel costs as well. Usually, hotels in Penang, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Taiwan, Singapore, Sydney and etc… will have seasonal promotion. So, remember to check them out!
Generally, travelers often forget to check the hotel Web sites for a better deals. No matter which online booking service you use, it is always recommended to check the hotel’s Web site first to see if they offer you any better deals or discounts. Be sure to inform them about your non-smoking requirement as you check in so you don’t have to deal with the whole room change dilemma by wasting some good sun beach time!
It is always recommended that you always stick with your vacation budget. Find the hotels that are priced within your budget and be sure that this is what you want. Read the hotel reviews, look at the amenities they offer, view all the pictures and don’t forget to see what the cost might be to upgrade. You will notice that what a few more dollars a night will change your accommodation’s quality. Read the room descriptions very carefully. For example, in the Penang hotel website, they will give you the details about the rooms such as the room rate, facility available, pictures, promotion, holiday offers, and so on.
There are plenty of travel sites in the internet with a few clicks of your mouse; however, it’s normally not easy to identify where to start. Usually most of the people think that all these sites have the same deals; but it’s incorrect. Different sites may have better deals. So, the main point is obtaining the right travel agency site. Next, don’t settle for the first hotel that seems sort of decent. Pictures are very deceiving and the truth when you get into the hotel, there may be 10 times worse.
In addition to the pre-negotiated rates with individual hotels, many agents will perform a customer satisfaction surveys. Reading their comments will always give you a fair idea on what to expect from the hotels located in your destination. Be sure to read a few comments in order to get a fair overview about the hotel.
Finally, remember to look into package deals with your hotel reservations or car rentals. With these deals combined, it is not impossible to save hundreds of dollars when purchasing package deals. However, before you buy any package deal, always check and compare the prices of buying each item separately.

The Best Gifts Are The Individual Gifts
Just about the most versatile gifts you can make is a gift basket. If you personalize it, it may be an unbelievable and unforgettable present. Abandon the stereotype of what a gift basket means.
Many of you may reckon a gift basket is not proper for your 9 year old son, or perhaps your sports-loving father. Yet when you produce the gift basket you may make it anything you wish. For instance the basket portion doesn’t have to be a traditional wickerwork basket. The container can be a baseball cap over turned to retain the other gifts, like tickets to a game or a rolled up jersey or some favorite snacks and a t-shirt. Or the basket can be a toy truck stuffed with other little play toys.
Do not insulate yourself to only providing gift baskets to certain individuals, whether you choose gift basket for women or basket presents for your old grandma.
One of the reasons it’s fun to receive a gift basket is because of the variety of items in it. The gifts in the basket are often times set on a specified theme that suits the individual getting the present and occasionally it is designed for the affair as well. Are candy gifts most proper for the juncture or does the person truly adore cheese and crackers?
But when you’re creating a basket you can do whatsoever you want. If you know the individual really well you might present a range of particulars that have no connection or theme, but that have a meaning to the 2 of you.
Lots of people, young and old, male or female, enjoy a sweet tooth, so do not neglect to regard a chocolate gift basket. But don’t push such desserts on everyone, either!
For the gardener in your life you could give a fine watering can as the basket and fill it with herb, vegetable or flower seeds you’re certain he or she will like. You might also add some gardening gloves, small horticulture tools and perhaps even a starter plant or flower. Personalize the gift by adding unique items you’re confident he or she will enjoy.
Just invest a little thought into the basket and the person who will be accepting it. Be sure you understand any dietary restrictions including food allergies or any specific preferences.

Cozumel Island - Mexico
One of Mexico’s largest islands, Cozumel, lies 20 km (12 miles) from the mainland, and 60 km (36 mi) south of Cancun. It’s a flat, limestone island shaped like a holster, and punctured by tens of cenotes (water-filled holes), many with their own marine forms, which are an extra attraction for swimmers and snorkellers who come to experience the island’s amazing offshore reefs.
Jacques Cousteau first promoted Cozumel in 1960, when he fingered Palancar at the island’s southern tip as one of the world’s best diving sites. He triggered a growth in tourist development, only reined in with the establishment of the National Marine Park in 1996: but the reefs were badly damaged by the deepwater piers built for cruise ships to bring new holiday makers.
Attitudes changed quickly. Cozumel’s new islanders (the 40,000 Maya who welcomed Herman (’Stout’) Cortes in 1519 were reduced to 30 by 1510, and Cozumel became uninhabited) realised the value, not just of their spectacular marine wealth, but also of the island’s undeveloped centre.
You’ll never get a better chance to appreciate Mayan culture so close to good beaches. The biggest Mayan site, San Gervasio (named much later), was for centuries sacred to lx Chel, the goddess of fertility, and one of the Yucatan’s most important sanctuaries. There are several others, recovered from jungle and swampy mangrove lagoons now teeming with cormorants, pelicans, primary-coloured tree frogs, iguanas and crocodiles.
These days, the duty of collective care is replacing the brash mistakes of the 1970s. You can see 250 species in its clear waters, including the bright blue-and-yellow queen angelfish, the toad fish (unique to Cozumel), and huge sponges like the barrel and elephant ear, which grows to 3.6 m (12 ft) across. Cozumel is fabulously pretty and exotic, and you should go there with someone you love and watch the sunsets.
If you are interested in holiday packages to Mexico, talk to Escape Travel. Escape Travel has a wide variety of cheap flights to overseas destinations as well as a wide selection of Australia holidays.

Depression Is A Serious Condition
Depression is a serious condition and when it spills over to a clinical condition, then people have to sit up and take notice. It is no longer than a simple emotional disorder, but a progressive mental disorder that can be characterized by known signs and symptoms. Depression is a real mental illness that you can’t just get over, but remember it takes more than one ingredient to bake a cake.
Depression is an emotional state, and if we are to understand depression in relation to evolution, we must first consider emotions. A common feature among different emotional states is that they are a response to signals, both external and internal, that are linked to positive reward or harm.
Depression is not just the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain, and like any other disease, it can be treated and managed. Read on to learn more about depression and what you can do to get help. Depression is all about grieving over some loss or other, be it the loss of a pet, a person, a job, a limb or simply a way of life previously enjoyed. Most of us who practice psychotherapy are all too aware that it is the loss of someone or something in a persons life, or perhaps their lifestyle itself, that precedes and precipitates the array of symptoms and feelings we now call depression.
Depression is more common in women then in men, with 25% of women suffering from depression severe enough to warrant treatment at least once during their lifetime. Depression is not just the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain, and is not simply cured with medication. Experts believe that depression is caused by a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. Depression is diagnosed in about 40% of patients who see a psychiatrist. This percentage is double that of just 20 years ago, and it is far higher than that of any other diagnosis.

The SpiderWeb System versus Insanity
Insanity, it is a general, popular and legal term defining behaviour influenced by mental instability. In modern usage, it is most commonly encountered as an informal, unscientific term, or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defense .
Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I like to look at it as banging your head against a wall and expecting to make money for it. Doesn’t usually work too well. There is apparently quite the debate amongst bloggers as to whether this was originally said by Benjamin Franklin, or Einstein, or someone else. Either way, its true.
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is just not very smart any way you slice it.The same thing applies to any business. The businesses that break the mold and do something new succeed. Those that continue with the status quo eventually are shown the Chapter 11 door. Horse carriage makers used to think that the whole automobile fad was just a phase that would pass.
In a more modern example, huge, established airline companies are struggling while new, smaller companies are succeeding by focusing on low fares and customer satisfaction.I know that is true, because when I first started in MLM, I tried a different Company, then another, then another. It wasn’t quite as successful as I had hoped, to put it lightly.
The original businesses of network marketing began almost 100 years ago, with vitamin sales in the US. Since then, its has grown into an enormous and comprehensive industry with companies on all continents. (Yes, all continents. Somewhere, some scientist in Antarctica is pitching Xango or something like that to one of his coworkers. You know it) Obviously, the industry hasn’t always remained the same, and success has favored the new and innovative. You shouldn’t remain the same either.
MLM may have made you a millionaire. If so, stop reading and have a nice life. If not, you may be seeking a new way to break the mold of mediocrity and achieve that success that is captured by the few who possess the business courage and agility to do what it takes to get it. Many people don’t achieve the financial success that originally lured them into network marketing. They say, Hmm, Ive been working really hard to sell product X, and its not working well (like me I’ve been selling amway’s products). Ill just sell product Y in the exact same type of system using the exact same techniques, and hope it works out. Insanity. Inconceivable.
The key is to try a different approach. Thats why I joined The SpiderWeb Marketing System. There is a better way to increase your income than badgering everyone you come in contact with to buy your product or join your system. The Spider Web Marketing System offers a new and innovative approach that has brought success to thousands of clients. It leverages the power of the Internet by maximizing the effectiveness of major search engines to direct new, fresh leads to you in a more efficient manner than any other system can provide. Thats only a portion of what it can do for you. The point is this: The Spider Web Marketing uses a ground-breaking principle called the funded-proposal system to perpetuate itself and bring people to you. You become the sole recipient of leads who are actually looking for an entrepreneurial opportunity. Thats only one unique facet of the many things that The Spider Web Marketing System can do to develop home businesses.
I joined The SpiderWeb Marketing System because I wanted to develop my downlines.Throughout history, whether in war or exploration or business, success comes to those who pioneer a new approach, while those who don’t are left banging their heads against a wall. Insanity. There are so many restrictions to your potential for success in MLM, and The Spider Web Marketing System is a really new strategy to go beyond those restrictions. The Spider Web Marketing System breaks the MLM traditions to bring prosperity to those who are willing to take a little more than just what they can get.

The perfect time to celebrate Shakespeare love poems and other sonnets
For those who care for the poems of past, this year and the month of May can be considered as one of the best ways to relish these poems. And to be more exact, this is the time to show appreciation once again to the great sonnet works of Shakespeare, Shakespeare being one of the big names when it comes to cute love poems and sonnets about love. But why is May a perfect time to celebrate love and cherish the poems of Shakespeare?
The year as the 400th year of Shakespeare’s sonnets and poems.
Well the third week of the month of May marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s sonnets. According to records, the first edition of the sonnets which include some great poems was released on May 20, 1609 and this was made possible by Thomas Thorpe. Other sources will zero-in on a different date, but still they are one in saying that the first edition of the master’s sonnets was published in 1609, thus the year 2009 marks the 400th year of the sonnet’s existence. After 400 years of being published, Shakespeare words as used on his poems remain true, popular and continues to promote love. And the question is, will there be modern words as well that can lasts for the next 400 years and match the longevity of the words and the poems of this great master?
What are sonnets and love poems?
As a lead off to the celebration, some Shakespearean scholars have noted that Thorpe may have released the poems and the sonnets of Shakespeare without the consent of the author. But whether or not there was consent, the important thing is that the precious gems of Shakespeare in the form of sonnets and poems has been made available and has inspired many generations of lovers. The sonnets of the poet are actually forms of poems, and these sonnets are considered as the most common forms of poetry. Sonnets that talk of love, called love poems in general are poems composed of thirteen lines and these poems contain a set rhyme and arranged in a logical structure. But perhaps the best description for these sonnets is that these sonnets are associated with love poetry and as such they are known as love poems. Poems in the form of sonnets are known to use the poetic diction that is based more on vivid imagery.
Reasons why sonnets and love poems of Shakespeare and other masters stand the test of time.
And the best known poems and sonnets are the ones written by Shakespeare. The sonnets and poems of Shakespeare introduced many generations of lovers to timeless poems’ lines. Lovers and couples who know their love poems know these lines’ “shall I compare thee to a summer’s day” or perhaps the more vivid “remembrance of things past”. Poems of this celebrated poet contain lines that express many thoughts about love and even betrayal. Sonnets and poems that talk about love are considered as the most personal poems around, may be because these poems addresses one of the most important emotions known to man- to love. These kinds of poems are here to stay, as long as man continues to love. Just look at the works of Shakespeare- it continues to make the romantics’ heart beat faster even after 400 years.
